Almost 20 New Locomotives Delivered to KTZ in September
KZ8A Series Electric Locomotives Arrived at Astana Depot
The national company «Kazakhstan Temir Zholy» (KTZ) continues to update its locomotive fleet. In September 2026, it was replenished with 18 new locomotives. This was reported by the carrier's press service.

The Astana depot received 3 KZ8A series electric locomotives and 5 shunting locomotives manufactured by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC). Another 6 mainline locomotives, assembled at the «Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty» (LKZ) plant in Astana, were sent to the Yesil depot.
The press service added that 3 CRRC shunting locomotives arrived at the Kurort-Borovoye depot, and 1 CRRC shunting locomotive arrived at the Karaganda depot. However, KTZ did not specify which models were in question.

In total, since January 2026, the national carrier has received 187 locomotives from three major manufacturers - Wabtec, CRRC, and Alstom. The new traction equipment will increase the reliability of the locomotive fleet and help improve the working conditions of railway workers.
Currently, the locomotive fleet numbers about 1700 units. This year, the delivery of 236 railway machines is planned. To replace outdated equipment, Kazakhstan needs to acquire 754 locomotives by 2030.
