Mapping will help create a digital model of the city
Specialists from Yandex Qazaqstan, with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, have begun developing a digital map of Almaty for testing unmanned vehicles. This was reported by the press service of the department.
Vehicles equipped with lidars and cameras are driving on the city's roads, recording markings, the location of traffic lights and road signs, intersections, and other infrastructure. A digital model of Almaty is being formed based on this mapping data.
Zhaslan Madiyev, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, stated that AI is an applied technology that should strengthen the economy and improve citizens' lives. Unmanned transport is one of the clear examples of such a transition, the minister emphasized.
In Kazakhstan, regulatory conditions for testing autonomous vehicles in urban environments have already been created. The next stage is the formation of the necessary technological infrastructure.
Madiyev reminded that the implementation of unmanned transport will be phased. It is important for the authorities to ensure the safety of all road users, he added.
Thanks to the digital map of Almaty, autonomous vehicles will be able to determine their location in space. The intelligent system will be able to predict road conditions and form the trajectory of vehicle movement.
