Almaty's CHP-2 and CHP-3 are being converted to natural gas
Head of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy inspected the project's progress
Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, inspected the construction sites of CHP-2 and CHP-3 in Almaty and familiarized himself with the progress of the project to convert the stations to natural gas combustion. This was reported by the ministry's press service.
It turned out that at CHP-2, the construction readiness level is 92%. Specialists have almost completely delivered the necessary technological equipment. Akkenzhenov demanded additional resources to accelerate commissioning works.
The press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan noted that CHP-2 is significantly behind schedule. Currently, the facility's readiness is about 26%. There are delays in the supply of key equipment. Only 600 people are working on the site. The shortage of personnel affects the timing of construction and installation works.
The Minister instructed to increase the pace of construction.
I demand an immediate elimination of the personnel shortage and a manifold increase in the amount of specialized equipment at the construction site.
If the problems at CHP-3 are not resolved in the coming weeks, customers and contractors will face penalties, the head of the department concluded.
There are three CHP plants in Almaty in total. CHP-1 operates entirely on natural gas. CHP-2 and CHP-3 operate on coal from Ekibastuz. In May 2023, the active phase of modernization of these facilities began, converting them to a new type of fuel.
