Over 8.5 billion kWh of energy generated by RES in Kazakhstan in 2025

In 2026, the republic will implement 10 RES projects with a total capacity of 245 MW

The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan actively stimulates electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES). In 2025, the volume of electricity obtained from RES facilities amounted to 8.6 billion kWh, which is 7% of the total electricity production in the republic, according to the press service of the relevant department.

This is significantly more than in previous years. For comparison, in 2022, RES facilities generated 5.11 billion kWh. RES accounted for 4.5% of the total energy balance.

The achieved results were made possible thanks to a consistent state policy for the development of "green" energy.

What contributed to the increase in generation:

  • selection of promising RES projects
  • attracting investments in "green" energy
  • construction of new RES facilities

Last year, 9 RES facilities with a total capacity of 503.5 MW were commissioned in Kazakhstan. In 2026, the authorities plan to implement 10 RES projects with a total capacity of 245 MW. These include 4 wind power plants, 5 solar power plants, and 1 HPP.

RES are being built in regions of Kazakhstan with suitable climatic conditions. For example, wind power plants operate in Almaty, Zhambyl, Akmola, Atyrau regions. Solar power plants are located in Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Zhetysu, and other southern regions.
