First in History: ENERFORT 2026 Cyber Exercises Held to Protect Kazakhstan's Fuel and Energy Complex Facilities
Over 120 cybersecurity specialists trained
The first-ever ENERFORT 2026 cyber exercises in the energy industry to protect fuel and energy complex (FEC) facilities were held in Kazakhstan. They were prepared to improve the professional training level of cybersecurity specialists, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported.
The exercises were organized by the R&D center for the development of advanced solutions in the field of cyber-physical resilience of the FEC at KazNU. The center's specialists developed scenarios for cyberattacks on technological infrastructure, lectures, and methodological materials. For two days, over 120 employees of energy enterprises underwent intensive training.
The main goal of the cyber exercises is to develop skills in identifying and investigating cyberattacks, responding to incidents, and increasing the resilience of energy facilities to modern digital threats.
What specialists studied:
- application of AI technologies for anomaly detection
- analysis of security events
- automation of risk response
- impact of quantum computing on traditional cryptography
- post-quantum protection methods
Participants in the cyber exercises analyzed the actions of simulated intruders, investigated incidents, and made decisions to protect the infrastructure.
Bakytzhan Ilyas, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, stated that industry events of this level will help increase the cyber resilience of the FEC. And the professional community will develop a proactive approach to infrastructure protection, he concluded.
