Q-Gate terminals to appear in new airports in Kazakhstan
Biometrics to be introduced at passport control
In 2026, 16 digital terminals for passport control (Q-Gate) will be installed at the airports of Shymkent, Atyrau, Aktobe, and Aktau. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Sauranbayev, at a government meeting.
16 Q-Gate terminals are already operating at Astana and Almaty airports (reducing border control time to 50 seconds).
In addition, authorities plan to introduce biometric identification on domestic flights.
In parallel, cargo transportation is being digitalized thanks to the e-Freight electronic document management system. Integration with state information systems will reduce cargo processing time from 1 day to 60 minutes.
The press service added that the modernization of the infrastructure of 5 airports in the country is planned: in Almaty, Atyrau, Urdzhar, Pavlodar, Aktau. All projects will be completed by 2029.
