Drilling waste to be used in road construction in Kazakhstan
The project will be handled by specialists from "KazdorNII"
The management of the Kazakhstan Road Research Institute ("KazdorNII") and "Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V." signed a memorandum of cooperation on the use of drilling waste (consisting of cementing solution, formation water, and drilling mud) in road construction in the republic. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
The document states that the parties will study and implement technologies for using drilling waste for the construction, reconstruction, and repair of roads.
Proposals for improving the regulatory and technical framework of the republic are also envisaged, taking into account modern requirements for sustainable development and environmental safety.
Experts must collect data on drilling waste and its effectiveness as secondary materials for road construction. The use of drilling waste can become one of the directions for the development of "green" technologies. This is especially important given the requirements for environmental friendliness and rational use of resources.
Nurzhan Mukayev, Vice President of "KazdorNII", stated that the use of drilling waste is a practical step towards a circular economy. The institute will provide scientific support for the project, including assessing the applicability of the technology for Kazakhstan's climate, he concluded.
