Video cameras in Astana have learned to identify drivers who use a phone while behind the wheel

Artificial intelligence helps identify traffic violators

Enhanced video analytics with AI support has been implemented in the Astana Smart City project. Thanks to this, the intelligent system helps identify violators of traffic regulations. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan.

The new algorithms automatically detect a wide range of violations, including a driver using a smartphone while behind the wheel and an unfastened seat belt. The function is currently operating in test mode.

The solutions are based on computer vision and machine learning technologies, ensuring high analysis accuracy and rapid response.

Advanced AI cameras not only record violations, but also make it possible to assess the situation on the roads. They have been integrated into the city information system, where all information is received.

The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry emphasized that the developers pay great attention to compliance with Kazakhstan's legislation requirements in the field of information security. Therefore, the system is undergoing certification in stages.

With the help of AI-supported video analytics, Astana's roads will become comfortable and safe, the ministry concluded.
