Nearly 40 billion tenge will be allocated to expand pharmaceutical production in Shymkent

The Government of Kazakhstan has approved an investment agreement between the republic's Ministry of Health and JSC "Khimfarm," aimed at providing citizens with more affordable medicines. This was reported by the cabinet's press service.

The document was signed by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. 

The project is aimed at increasing the share of Kazakhstani manufacturers and attracting investment.

The agreement provides for the construction of a new phase for the drug manufacturer Polpharma Santo in Shymkent. The plant will create 300 new jobs.

The volume of investment will amount to 39.5 billion tenge, including funds for scientific research. The first production phase will be launched at the end of 2029.

It is planned to produce 38 types of medicines for the treatment of the following diseases:

  • oncological
  • cardiovascular
  • infectious
  • chronic (including tuberculosis)

The authorities expect that expanding production in Shymkent will strengthen Kazakhstan's drug security and make medicines more affordable.
