LKZ plant capacity increased to 100 locomotives per year
Kazakhstan has become Wabtec's largest partner
Kazakhstan is a key partner of the American corporation Wabtec in the CIS. Over 27 years of operations in the country, more than 700 locomotives have been produced, said Wabtec Vice President for Field Services and Technical Maintenance Management in the CIS and Mongolia Gaini Duisenova.
These locomotives provide transportation in Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia. Production volume at the "Lokomotiv kurastyru zauyty" plant (LKZ, 100% of the shares are owned by Wabtec) amounted to 100 units of equipment per year, while the localization level reached 40%.
At our plant, we currently carry out overhaul repairs, and 50% of the fleet operated in Kazakhstan has already undergone major engine overhaul.
LKZ plans to produce diesel engines. Later, the enterprise will launch production of locomotives with the Common Rail system, which will help reduce fuel consumption and atmospheric emissions.
Wabtec became the owner of the plant in 2023 after buying out a majority stake from ZAO "Transmashkholding." It assembles Evolution ES44ACi diesel locomotives with an asynchronous traction drive, as well as mainline freight and passenger diesel locomotives here.
