Biometric Passenger Identification Planned for Kazakhstan's Airports
The Swiss company SITA audited 14 state-owned airports in Kazakhstan to determine further steps for the comprehensive digitalization of civil aviation. The results were announced at a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
The level of equipment with basic passenger service and baggage handling systems in most airports remains insufficient (around 38%), which means a significant part of technological processes are still performed manually.
The meeting addressed the issue of equipping the country's air gates with modern digital systems for:
- automating passenger registration
- baggage processing and accounting
- passenger flow management
- implementing biometrics
- accelerating pre-flight procedures
- improving the quality of passenger service
A center for managing the digital systems of all airports is planned to be established in Astana. It will provide real-time monitoring, coordination, and operational management of key processes.
SITA can also assist with equipping 3 new airports under construction in Kazakhstan – in Zaysan, Kenderli, and Katon-Karagay district. They will feature digital services that meet international standards.
