Starlink is used for intermediate train regulation in Kazakhstan

KTZ introduces innovations on the railway

The American satellite system Starlink helps in the intermediate regulation of train traffic in Kazakhstan. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (KTZ) Marat Shakenov during a government meeting.

According to him, KTZ is introducing new innovation technologies in the field of railway transport. In particular, the digital system for intermediate train traffic regulation AYMAK RAIL is used on the "Karagaily – Kokpekty" section.

In December 2025, work began on deploying the project using the Starlink satellite system with a length of 247 km.

Thanks to this solution, the throughput capacity increases to 4 pairs of trains per day. The volume of transportation will be 3 million tons of cargo per year, he added. The launch of AYMAK RAIL in test mode is scheduled for April 2026.

In addition, KTZ has equipped shunting locomotives with an electric system with a diesel engine and rechargeable batteries. This saves fuel, reduces operating costs, and also reduces emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere by 20%.
