In Kazakhstan, the nationwide command-and-staff exercises "Koktem-2026" began the day before. This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations press service. 

Rescuers and personnel from other emergency services, as well as representatives of local authorities, will be prepared for response measures in the event of flood-related emergencies.

The republican headquarters for coordinating the exercises is located at the Center for Strategic Planning and Operational Management of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana.

The maneuvers are led by Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister for Emergency Situations, Major General Kamalov R.F. On the first day, groupings of forces and assets were placed on alert for eliminating the consequences of the spring flood season. In addition, specialists checked the readiness of the nationwide alert system.

 Practical actions will be practiced in populated areas that are most vulnerable to flooding. At the final stage, regional tactical special drills will begin to improve coordination among agencies.

The "Koktem-2026" exercises involved special-purpose vehicles from the Russian concern KamAZ, Toyota Hilux SUVs, and hovercraft. The maneuvers will conclude on Friday, February 27.
