Kazakhtelecom will provide access to its backbone infrastructure (the “VOLS SNP 1.0” project) to local small and medium-sized telecom operators. Thanks to this, specialists will be able to deploy “last mile” networks in villages using GPON technology with internet speeds of at least 100 Mbps. This was stated by Damir Seisembekov, Chairman of the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of AI and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, following the signing of the corresponding agreement with the national telecom operator.
The key direction of the agreement will be the development of telecommunications infrastructure in rural areas.
The ministry noted that authorities plan to provide fiber-optic communication lines to more than 1,000 villages in Kazakhstan. Residents of these settlements will be able to receive modern digital services. These measures will help bridge the digital divide between cities and villages in the republic.
A developed digital infrastructure will provide new opportunities: from remote education to the implementation of advanced digital solutions, the ministry emphasized.
The development of digital infrastructure is an investment in the future of the regions and the entire country.
As a reminder, the backbone fiber-optic communication line of the “VOLS SNP 1.0” project was laid in 2018–2020. The project was implemented by Kazakhtelecom and Transtelecom.
