Criminals in Kazakhstan have devised a new scheme to deceive citizens. The perpetrators impersonate employees of telecom operators and various organizations, and then act under the guise of cyber police. This was reported by the Police Department of Abai region.
Kazakhstanis began receiving calls allegedly from employees of medical institutions and resource-supplying organizations. Later, a second call comes in, and the scammer tries to convince the interlocutor that they were talking to a fraudster. Victims are told that their money could be stolen, so the funds need to be transferred to a "safe account".
Police remind: these are signs of fraud. Police officers do not request SMS codes and bank passwords over the phone, nor do they demand money transfers.
Law enforcement officers urged Kazakhstanis not to fall for tricks and to warn their loved ones about such fraudulent schemes. Citizens are advised not to disclose SMS codes, passwords, and bank card details to strangers.
Furthermore, there is no need to transfer funds at the request of strangers. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the official organization. In case of fraud, you should immediately contact the police, the department concluded.
