KazMunayGas has implemented a digital twin with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies at the Vostochny Moldabek oil field in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan. This was announced by Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of the Board of the national operator.
The press service of the Government of Kazakhstan reported that the intelligent system models the reservoir, wells, and infrastructure. In just a few hours, the neural network calculates up to 700 development scenarios and determines optimal drilling points.
The AI twin can double oil recovery at Vostochny Moldabek. It is expected that the hydrocarbon recovery factor will increase from 14% to 30%. KazMunayGas plans to apply this approach to 12 fields within 5 years. The technology will cover 90% of the operator's production and allow for an additional 2.9 million tons of oil.
Khasenov, Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas, stated that calculations used to take months. Now, analytics have been handed over to neural networks.
In one of the areas, AI showed that instead of six vertical wells, two vertical and two horizontal wells should be drilled.
Thanks to these calculations, almost 600 million tenge can be saved, the top manager concluded.
