Starting September 2026, the Kazakh Research University of AI (QAIRU) will begin operations in Astana. Its opening is the result of the implementation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's directive. This was reported by the official information resource of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
It is planned to admit about 600 students, including 400 undergraduate students, of whom 308 will be recipients of state grants, and 100 people for master's programs.
Under the AI-Sana program, in which 106 universities participate, more than 700,000 students have completed basic training in AI. In the educational environment, 442 AI agents have been developed and implemented. 980 members of university teams were involved in their development.
ChatGPT Edu is being implemented in higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan. The project is being carried out with the support of OpenAI, Freedom Holding Corp., and JSC "Kazakhtelecom". AI technologies are becoming part of the educational and research environment.
At the same time, AI training is being introduced in schools of the republic. Methodologists are updating curricula for elementary, middle, and high school students.
