Kazakhstani scientist discovers new species of bacteria, Aeromonas oralensis

The specialist is involved in identifying opportunistic pathogenic microorganisms in aquatic ecosystems

Serik Bakiyev, head of educational programs in biology, chemical sciences, and environment at M. Utemisov West Kazakhstan University, together with colleagues, discovered a new species of bacteria, Aeromonas oralensis. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan.

Bakiyev's scientific interests include the identification of opportunistic pathogenic microorganisms in aquatic ecosystems, as well as their molecular genetic identification. The scientist also deals with issues related to microbiological safety and the environment.

Projects with his participation address such urgent scientific problems as studying the microbiome of natural and groundwater, isolating endophytic bacteria, and assessing the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in ecosystems.
