Russia Increases Electricity Supplies to Kazakhstan

Growth Reaches 28%

Russian electricity export/import operator "Inter RAO" supplied 1.4 billion kWh of electricity to Kazakhstan from January to May 2026. This is 28% more than the figure for the same period in 2025.

Russia is considered the largest supplier of electricity to the republic. Purchases are explained by the growing deficit of its own generation.

A member of the "Inter RAO" board stated earlier that the company plans to transfer 4.3 billion kWh of electricity to Kazakhstan this year. A similar volume was supplied to the republic in 2025.

Last year, besides Kazakhstan, the main buyers of electricity from Russia were Mongolia and China. From January 1, 2026, Beijing stopped purchases because domestic tariffs were lower than the price offered by Moscow.
