Driverless taxi to be launched in Kazakhstan

Yandex Qazaqstan and inDrive companies are participating in the project

Driverless taxis will appear on the roads of Kazakhstan. The project will be launched in the second half of 2026. It will be supervised by the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Development of the Republic. Yandex Qazaqstan and inDrive companies are carrying out the relevant infrastructure preparation, the ministry's press service reported.

Yandex Qazaqstan specialists are forming the technical base: equipping special garages, setting up a fleet of autonomous vehicles. The software (SW) for the driverless taxi is being adapted to the traffic rules of Kazakhstan.

The project will be implemented through a so-called "regulatory sandbox". This will allow testing certain technological solutions and forming a regulatory and legal framework.

At the same time, an operator will monitor the movement of driverless vehicles. The autopilot will only be launched if the infrastructure is confirmed to be ready and positive test results are obtained.

inDrive will join this work on other routes, including Almaty. Traffic schemes for the driverless taxi fleet are currently being designed there.

The Ministry of Innovation and Digital Development of Kazakhstan stated that it relies on the best world practices. The department will take into account the experience of the USA, China and other countries.
