Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov discussed the construction of the largest wind power plant (WPP), Mirny, with a capacity of 1 GW in the Zhambyl Region with representatives of the management of the French energy giant TotalEnergies. This was reported by the ministry's press service.
The project is a key element of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and France in the field of decarbonization, enshrined in the Special Agreement between the governments of the two countries.
The ministry believes that the partnership with TotalEnergies will help achieve Kazakhstan's carbon neutrality goal. In addition, the region will receive clean energy and a foundation for developing new competencies in the field of renewable energy sources (RES).
About the Mirny WPP
In addition to wind generation, the Mirny plant will include a powerful electricity storage system with a capacity of 300 MW/600 MWh. In this way, the developers plan to stabilize power output to the unified grid. The WPP will be connected to the YuKGRES and ShU substations by high-voltage lines. The total length of the power transmission lines will be 280 km.
