Satbayev University scientists developed new materials for mechanical engineering

The project was implemented under the Zhas Galym grant

Scientists at Satbayev University manufactured a centrifugal pump casing from fiber-reinforced concrete (a composite material) without using metal. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan.

Traditional metal pump casings have high strength, but are characterized by significant weight, manufacturing complexity, and a high level of vibration.

In the implementation of the project "Technology for manufacturing a pump part casing from carbon fiber," submitted for the Zhas Galym grant, lecturer Akzharkyn Igbaeva also took part. The researcher conducted a series of experiments to develop new materials for mechanical engineering.

According to Igbaeva, the fiber-reinforced concrete used in casing parts will significantly reduce vibration and noise levels. The resulting sample has a number of advantages: high resistance to dynamic loads and corrosion, and geometric precision.

The author of the project is confident that a pump made of composites will last longer than analogues made of traditional materials.

Where fiber-reinforced concrete will be useful:

  • transport mechanical engineering
  • mining and metallurgical industry
  • housing and communal services
  • agriculture
